A Visit, Birds, and Words

Monticellostuff I was so lucky to get to hang out with this bird on Saturday! We went to Monticello (southeast Portland, not Virginia) Antique Market and Fabric Depot and puttered all afternoon. Lisa has such great energy and she is a dangerous shopping partner, who seems to be able to read my mind when I want something. "Should I get it?" say I. "Of course!" says Lisa. Into my basket it goes! Love that! Thanks, Leese!

She brought me wonderful presents -- darling Italian soaps in an adorable box and a tiny chair for my tiny chair collection. I put them with the things I got at Monticello (this rusty little birdhouse/cage, a cute old book, old flashcards, vintage wallpaper, aqua creamer) and the little blue creamer that came all the way from a wonderful girl printer in Australia last week; its chubby, unusual shape is one I've never seen before. The little white pom poms are tiny vintage faces on flowers which are so unique and from Shelly. I cannot imagine why someone made these or what they were used for. There are at least a dozen of them, and she said she found them at an estate sale.

MonticellodetailThis little tweeter's name is Lucy. She came from a wise little owl over here, along with a beautiful beaded bracelet named Maranda. She is such a sweet, diminutive little darling, isn't she? I had her on my coffee table all day yesterday for Easter, while both Andy and I (so great to have him around for an actual holiday-day -- alas, hospitals don't close for holidays, so he often has to work) enjoyed a whole afternoon of movies and chili-making and general puttering after brunch with my family at the Heathman. That was a great brunch, and believe me, we have had Easter brunch at almost every hotel in Portland over the years. Beautiful hotel, beautiful day. Hope it was wonderful for all of you.

HillarybirdAnd look what showed up on the typewriter! I dictated the note to this fellow (he's quite smart, not to mention dexterous, or rather "wing-skilled") for the multi-talented genius that is his human-mum. He is currently perched there, taking notes on our household and is thinking of starting his own blog.

Thank you, everyone!!!

Alicia you are such a creative genius! Everything you do is beautiful. I love the blogging bird.

Its always so fun to see the little vignettes you set up for photos, can I have a lesson? What a fun weekend you had, I bet Lisa is really a fun shopping partner.

I love that bluebird from Hillary, so cute.

Oooh look at all the fabby loot you scored in Monticello! That sweet bird cage is to die for :) My friend and I are headed to the big New England Antiques Show in 3 weeks I hope I fare as well as you did!

Too gorgeous, all of this bounty! Next time I see a rusty old bird cage, I'm not going to tell myself no. I'm going to let myself bring it home.

I stumbled across your blog a few days ago and am so delighted! I have loved your store for two years now and am so inspired by everything you do. Keep up the amazing work!

OOooh that looks like an Alice and Jerry book! I love and collect those, so much easier to find than Dick and Jane and in my opinion cuter illustrations!

Such lovely eye candy as always!
