Small and Mighty

The fall issue of Small magazine is out and it is so gorgeous.

Small is a quarterly on-line publication of "creative work on a small scale for the small-sized." Small's editors, Christine and Olivia, curate beautiful images, original perspectives, unique illustrations, and fresh designs from small-scale productions, exploring the best of kid-focused fashion, design, and delights. I love this delicate, peachy story, Ballet Russe, photographed by Tamara Muth-King.

These amazing collages by Jayme McGowan are so evocative and dimensional.

And this is definitely a sheep, photographed by the clever Catherine Ledner. Love this.

I was very psyched when Olivia and Christine asked me to contribute to the Small Bites section of this issue! This is the "taste of my childhood," a recipe so special to me and my family. I've never written about my mom's spaghetti sauce on my own blog — you know how there are some things that are so much a part of you that you just can't find a way to say so properly? I've been secretly holding on to this one, and I'm thrilled to be able to finally share it on Small. I would say that Mom's Sauce is our family's signature. Nothing tastes more like home to me than this. I really hope you love it, too.

If the sauce tastes anything like how the picture looks then you must set me a place at the table next time. (I'll bring desert) The photo makes my mouth water - and fall is coming, which means heartier foods. Oh, yummm.

Whoa baby, giving up the family sauce 'receipt' (as Tasha Tudor would say) is serious business! Love "Small" and anything miniature really. Thanks for sharing. Warmly, Cat ^..^

Oh, Yummy! That looks so good.

I've never heard of that magazine...I'll have to check it out...it looks amazing!

Very cute page! I'm excited to try the "sauce". Just yesterday I made homemade pasta for the first time.

What a wonderful article and such a delicious looking recipe. I just read "Playing for Pizza" by John Grisham and it's got me craving some good Italian food. YUM!

Oh my goodness. I am definitely going to put away the Classico for a night and give this one a whirl. How cool of you to share your keepsake.

Oh yummy. Thanks for sharing this with us - the sauce and Small! I'm glad to know about it...

OMGosh, this is something I am going to sink my teeth into this weekend. Thank you for sharing. I love Italian foods.

I can't wait to look through Small. I think my love of tiny things is what made me become a jewelry designer. Thank you for sharing this one.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. It looks delish. And I can't wait to go back and visit that site.

Oh I am so going to have to try this recipe! And it has enough meat in it to satisfy my husband. (Andrew is a meat and potatoes kind of guy) Thanks for the recipe.

I was actually looking through Small when I came upon your recipe page! Wow, thanks for sharing this. I have guests coming from out of town this weekend and I'm looking forward to trying this...

it was such a thrill to stumble upon your mom's sauce in the magazine! the recipe is very similar to my mom's. the issue is exceptional, i wish they would print it.

The recipe looks delicious. I read it to my husband when I got my copy of Small and our mouths were watering. With fall in the air here in the northwest, we'll be making it very soon.

your recipe makes my mouth water just reading it! do you ever use fresh tomatoes in the sauce? i have a pile of them staring at me right now...

Oh I just printed up the recipe..can't wait to try this out..makes my mouth water..we lived in italy for 3 years and their food is the absolute best! thanks for sharing this secret recipe with us...I hope it turns out as great as you described it!

I have a very "small" crush in these great images.

I have to ask, did you take that photo of the meatballs and lasagna? Because it makes me want to just dive right in...

I saw you in Small and was delighted. I also loved the Ballet Russe photospread and actually looked to see if they had that embroidered coat in an adult size. They don't. I'm going to make your Mom's sauce this weekend, can't wait!

Yep, that is DEFINITELY a sheep ;)

Ooh, can't wait to try the sauce. Thank you for sharing something so special to you :) xx

Thanks so much, I love your blog and that magazine is so cute...but there is a website typo in it that leads you to a NOT so appropriate page...is there someone we can contact so they can correct it?
