try it right away.

I seem to have stalled out after my quilting frenzy. Now all I do is just sit around watching our yard turn its delirious shade of florescent green. Well, actually before I sat around yesterday I weeded the front parkway since about four hundred dandelions bloomed in approximately twenty minutes. Weeding is seriously exhausting. It always looks so much prettier after you do it, but hellity hell dandies. You do make me work for it.

Some answers: 1) No, I dont stand on a ladder to take overhead table photos, but I do have an articulated LCD screen on my Canon camera that tilts toward me so I can see what I'm shooting. This is the second third camera I have had with an articulated LCD screen and I definitely would not buy a camera without it. It's awesome. 2) Yes (and thank you very much for asking), I might start selling photos because I own a very nice professional-quality photo printer that I don't use enough and it is just sitting there doing nothing and it might be really fun to have prints. 3) But not before I figure out how to redo my web shop because my web shop pretty much sucks and I have to fix it. 4) I'm not sure if I will do a quilt pattern and/or a new cross-stitch kit for the sampler on the black background. But I might. The quilt is a super weird size. I think it's like 100" x 100". Maybe I'll just write the pattern exactly how I did it and you can adjust it however you'd like. It would be really easy to make it a little bigger or smaller. 5) I forgot the last thing I was going to say. Crud. 6) Oh yeah, I just remembered: I still need to ask Brady if they named the farm yet!

Easy Spicy Garlic Bread in a Pot

makes 1 loaf of bread

recipe adapted from The Pioneer Woman

Print this Recipe!

1 cup (8 ounces) of warm water (between 110 and 115 degrees F)

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

pinch of granulated sugar

4 ounces unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme

1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives

3/4 teaspoon dried red chili flakes

2 or 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and sliced

about 4 cups (20 ounces) bread flour, plus more for dusting the work surface

a few big pinches of coarse ground black pepper

2 teaspoons salt

olive oil, coarse sea salt, and chili flakes for topping

Sprinkle yeast over warm water, add pinch of sugar and stir gently. Allow yeast and warm water to rest, foam and froth for about 5 minutes. If yeast does not foam and froth after 5 minutes, toss it and start over again with new yeast.

Melt butter in a small saucepan. When butter is melted, remove from heat and add herbs, chili flake, and garlic. Set aside.

Place flour in the bowl of an electric stand mixer, fitted with a bread hook. Add salt and pepper. Pour in activated yeast mixture, and butter mixture. Stir on low speed, with the dough hook, for about 10 to 12 minutes. The dough ball should clean the sides of the bowl and not stick to the bottom of the mixing bowl. The dough will be relatively smooth and supple, with some firmness from the bread flour.

Place dough in a large greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to rest in a warm place until double in size, about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

When doubled in size, place on a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for about 2 minutes.

In a large Dutch oven, add about 2 tablespoons olive oil, to coat the bottom of the pot. Place dough in pot and use a large knife to slice a fairly deep cross into the dough. Drizzle about 3 more tablespoons of olive oil atop the bread. Sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt and pepper flakes.

Cover with tight fitting lid and bake for 30 minutes. Reduce oven heat to 400 degrees F, remove lid, and allow to make for about 15-20 minutes more.

Remove from oven and allow to cool until easily removed from the pan. Bread will last, well wrapped at room temperature, for up to 3 days.

Y'know Alicia I didn't own a Dutch Oven (didn't even know what one was, had to Google it) but when I saw that bread the first time I knew I HAD to get me one. However, having bought one some months ago I still haven't made that bread, or in fact used it at all. I've been sewing like a crazy woman these past months (sadly not for me, so have nothing to show for it) but that is behind me now so I'm ready to get baking this week :o) Eurgh, and sympathies with the weeds. I managed to get one bed weeded last weekend. It looked so good but made me realize how bad the others looked!

you're awesome :) and yesssss, I've tried the Dutch Oven bread! we changed up the ingredients a couple times...cinnamon apple...rosemary lemon...chocolate walnut...and we always ALWAYS double the recipe. works like a charm. oh, and I add more salt. makes the bread an eensy bit more flavorful. thanks for the inspiration.

Sara from the UK-- in the US, a Dutch oven is just a big,heavy pot with a tight-fitting lid. Le Creuset is a popular brand; I refer to mine as my "French - Dutch oven". You need a tight lid to keep the steam in and a big enough pot to hold the loaf.

Your photo reminds me, how much I loved the towel that I used for years and years when I covered bread dough. My sister bought me a linen tea towel in England in 1973, it was a Union Jack. For years it was in the closet with the original creases, and then I thought, "Use It!" So it sort of faded but was so fun to iron and then grab to dampen and put over the rising dough. I just loved using it and having that ritual. Within the last year I wrapped something in it to take to a party and it was accidentally tossed out with a plastic bag. Waah!
But then I discovered linen tea towels on eBay and Etsy, and have spent some fun money buying more vintage tea towels. LOVE THEM.

Thanks again for turning me onto the wonderful bread recipe. I have a yeast starter from CA that needs feeding every Saturday, and the cast iron bread method is amazing for it!
