Little Tree

The Christmas bustle! It's on. Cards to be written, gifts to be wrapped and mailed (and some to be, firstly, gotten at all), neighbor and friend presents to be made (this chai mix with these labels and these recipe cards), events to be scheduled and prepared for. It really is busy, as slow as you try to make it. Whoosh. Another December week, here and went.

I made a little cardboard bed for a little bunny. I also made a ticking-striped mattress, pillow, fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillowcase, wool blanket, calico comforter, and pink knitted wool throw. And a polka-dot nightgown. The bed was SO MUCH fun to make. Except for the legs (which are little wooden doll pins, turned upside down), it's entirely made out of cardboard, masking tape, paint, and varnish. Mint green. This darling bed was my inspiration for the shape. The design that I painted on it is the same as the one that I embroidered on Amelia's baby bunad. I varnished it all with triple-gloss varnish, which made it super glossy. I enjoyed making this so much. I wish I were making it right now.

Our girl is walking everywhere she wants to go, and pushing her little cart everywhere. She's so amazing. I adore her. Christmas with one-year-old is beautiful.

I cannot even begin to deal with the adorableness of that bed. I'm going to need to make that fox! Merry Christmas!

Hi Alicia.. love the little high up tree. I was worried about our 4 & 5 year old grandsons with our tree, but they're leaving it alone just fine! Your tea jar gifts are awesome! I tried to get the artwork but I wasn't able to download it for some reason. I am the proud new owner of 2 advent candelabras.. vintage from eBay. One is stained brown and one is natural wood. Just love them!! Thanks for inspiring me.

Drinking chai and playing with your sweet daughter and bunnies. What a nice way to spend an afternoon. Enjoy the holidays.

I love your little tree! We had one last year when my boy was one and a half. That little tree made Christmas so peaceful with a walking, exploring little person. Happy days to you and yours!

I think I'm starting to miss cold weather. So she's walking? Oy, you thought were tired before, now you'll have even more fun chasing her and watching her giggle when you catch her. Best wishes for a lovely holiday.

So warm and sweet...just as Christmas should be. Oh, Alicia...your talent is astounding! Your little softies and their wardrobes and that bed with its covers! I don't know how you dream all this stuff up, but I'm so glad that you do! :)

How beautiful it all looks! The bed is so sweet. Blessing to your dear family this Christmas time.

I wonder if there's a Maker place with a spare CNC router to replicate that bed in MDF or something similarly last-almost-forever-y...

Beautiful photos , your friends and family will love your gift it so beautiful and i just can't wait to sew your new patterns when they are ready. That bed is marvellous its wonderful xx

oh the little bed......with the little bunny........sigh!!! 💕

Please do tell about the beautiful blue floral puffer coat!

Thank you for sharing all of the loveliness!

This is such a lovely post. I am in love with that cute little bed and all the bedding you've made. The painted flowers are so pretty. And the chai will make such a nice gift.

I just made my first Maggie rabbit, from one of your kits. It was a genuine delight from start to finish, and I am so looking forward to giving it to my daughter on Christmas day. I should wrap it soon, but I don't want to as I keep getting it out of it's hiding place and looking at it for a while... And now I want to make lots more dresses and knitted coats and other lovely things for Miss Maggie. Thanks for the lovely crafting experience! Here's my rabbit:

Wonderful bed!! Will it be available as a 'pattern' in your website as all the other new animals we see in your blog? Hope you will design a cupboard for all the clothes as well:-)

Love the little bed so sweet! Thanks for sharing the Chai Tea recipe with us. Thinking I may make this for a few gifts as well.

I know you mentioned that you are working on the kits for the other animal softies and I was wondering if they will be ready for purchase before march? I made both of my daughters a Miss Maggie and they LOVE them. My daughters birthday is in March and she LOVES cats so I have had my eye on the cat softie as well as the fox that you have pictured and am really hoping they are released early in the new year so I can make them for her for her bday! :)

Amazing . . . you just are . . . AMAZING . . .
Love the little bed . . .
Love the LOVE you feel for your daughter . . . just plain love it!

OMG, that bunny bed is just so over the top!!! I'm sure that Bunny Protective Services will be coming to my house shortly, as my bunny doesn't have anything quite so nice to sleep in!! Your holiday chai mix looks lovely, and I envy the lucky recipients of your thoughtful gift!

I love how your home always has a warm glow. It's so cozy, especially at Christmas. =)

I've been posting about holiday books for kids, and I think one in particular, Little Tree, would appeal to you. It's the poem by e.e.cummings, illustrated by Deborah Kogan Ray. Probably Winter Poems too. You can see them here:

Have a wonderful week! Enjoy that beautiful little girl and her new-found mobility. =)

Beautiful photos! Christmas is entirely new when a little one is involved. I feel like I relive my childhood when I watch my children's joy. Wonderful times. So glad you have little Amelia.

This post couldn't get any cuter! Just everything is perfect. I absolutely love your jar design- I could have used that for my homemade granola and never thought of it. You are probably the most creative person I know of! I wish I could give you my wooden doll cradle that was my mom's. I painted it for my daughter when she was little but she was into animals, not dolls. You are inspiring me to fix it up and sew linens... and then wait for the day I have a granddaughter! (which won't be for a long time but oh well!)

Suddenly it's clear: You are an elf.

That bed is adorable! Everything looks so warm and cozy and festive. I think I really must put on some chai now. It looks like all of the animals are coming along. So sweet! I had the same tiny piano when I was little. Spotting it in your living room made me smile.

That bed!!!! So darn cute. I think I would have done the same, with getting so far into it, by making bedding and blankest, because everything small is so cute.
