Late on a foggy afternoon we drove out to the woods. Had dinner at the Skyway and spent the night at a little cabin. The next morning we went up to Timberline Lodge for breakfast and spent the day playing in the snow. Her first time. I will never, ever forget it. Man, what a great day. My dream come true.

(Other trips to Timberline are here and here. [Josh and Keels have little kids now, too, but next year I think we should all go up together again and stay at the lodge — there's just nothing like sleeping up there.] Mimi's sweater and hat are on my Ravelry page, and her mittens [when she would agree to wear them!] are on Gillian's.)

Så beautiful!:)

Ah, thanks for sharing the link to the hat - have been looking for something for my little girl. Not that she needs a hat really, quite mild weather where we are, but she would look cute in it. Loving your photos as usual, I always feel I have stumbled happily on an interesting american movie when I read your posts - the type that make me stay up later than I'd planned, because the landscape is so very different than here, and really beautiful. Sam xx

I JUST finished the last chapter of Wild, which of course includes Cheryl Strayed's visit to Timberline Lodge. Synchronicity. These photos of it are gorgeous.

I think your home interiors are very much influenced by Carl Larsson the Swedish painter and look the epitome of cosy. I love the way that you remain so responsive to the beauty of your surroundings as well as recording Amelia.

Oh, these photo are just beautiful. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. Thanks so much for sharing.

Just when I think you couldn't possibly take any more-precious pictures of your sweet girl... those "snuggling the snowman" pics are just priceless. Looks like a wonderful trip!

Gorgeous, Gorgeous, absolutely Gorgeous photos. How lucky you are to have been in such a place!

These photos are tremendous! Thanks for sharing.

Oh what a joy to look at these amazing photos! I would have wanted to put her little snowman in the freezer and save it forever!

You little Scandinavian snow bunnies! :) It looks beautiful! Sirene. Cold. But I have enough of my own here in New York. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Mimi looks delighted.

she looks like she enjoyed herself so much! :)
when i was a little girl around the age 5 we didnt have much money and I still remember what a treat it was to visit the lodge on mt. hood and play in the snow.
and to meet and pet Heidi the dog...i felt like i met a celebrity.

it looks absolutely beautiful there. i may have to drive down (live in sw wa now) and take my two youngest daughters 12 & 15 yr olds there...sweet memories.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your photos are stunning. The photos of Missy with the snow man in her hands and first one of her with the snow back drop, with her red nose and cheeks. The later ones look like vintage shots with her hat and sweater. What a blessing. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. Gives me heart squeezes. I am so happy for you all!

Just look at those roses little cheeks and nose. Darling!

What a heart-melting moment! The way she was holding her little snowman in the sled? The best.

Just wanted to mention that I love your blog and all its content and pictures! The calm ones, the funny ones, the magical ones - your blog is an inspiration! Thanks for that ;-)

All the best from Germany,

What wonderful pictures! It looks like a great time. They are all beautiful but I love the one where you are gazing at her at the table. Your love and contentment are so evident it is such a heartwarming glimpse into your life. Thank you for sharing your world with us.

I would love those woods too. What a wonderful education you are providing.
I've said it before, you have a book inside you that will hopefully come out one day.

Happy trails!

Oh such a little Heidi! Amelia looks just like the Heidi illustrations in the book I had as a child. what a sweet wee girl you have. By the way I tried reading Heidi recently to my 7 year old granddaughter. oh dear the language is quite dense. It's actually not an easy read nowadays. I am surprised as I read it so happily when I was young.
