Afternoon at the river, which we had (gloriously) all to ourselves, until Amelia said, "Home!" and put on her own shoes and started walking by herself across the sand back toward the car :: Dark storms and ruby-glowing dogwood trees :: Andy-made chocolate chip cookies from this recipe, and they were indeed very good (Denise's suggestion â€” thank you, Denise!) :: A rhubarb pie from this recipe, which is delicious (if you like goo, which I do) :: A spinach souffle from this recipe which I thought was just . . . meh (needs more spinach, less egg, in my opinion) :: A chocolate cake from this recipe (which has replaced Hershey's Deep Dark for me — this one is better, and you can let the kiddos lick the spatula because, no eggs [irony]!) and our favorite frosting :: Cake baked by me and decorated by Meems (which made Andy laugh his head off when he got home and saw it) :: An attempt to take a photo of the vest, of which I am already knitting another, as this thing is just what I've been wanting :: Going out to get a columbine plant, a dozen more eggs to bring to the Easter egg hunt tomorrow, and Thai food for lunch with my dearest, darling, sweetest, most wonderfully wonderful girl.

Wishing you all a truly joyful weekend filled with love and springtime things! Xoxoxoxo

Glorious!
And your pictures and recipes make me want cake and pie now ;-)
Delicious looking!

Love those sandy hands! My sister-in-law advised me once that the dirtier the bath water, the better they sleep. Soooo true! Happy Easter to you and yours🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇

Happy Easter to you and yours as well, Alicia! Thanks for the lovely views and news about your days. Across town from you we have been planting some new plants and our huge old cherry tree is nearly in its full glorious bloom...in spite of our April rain showers :-) xx

AS ALWAYS EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL!!
DID YOU MADE THE GREY VEST? IS THERE ANY PATTERN?

The dogwood is amazing, we don't have them here, they're beautiful at this time of year. The picture of the flowers against the dark sky is wonderful. Your garden is looking gorgeous in the rain. Spring is springing indeed. CJ xx

Her hair:) The blooms..cookies..GREEN..
It all makes for a wonderful Easter.
Plus a celebratory cake w/ chef Amelia:)

Lovely post - wishing you a wonderful Easter, thanks for the link to the rhubarb recipe - I have a bunch in my fridge that needs to be used.

Happy Easter to you all! I love the cake.

Happy Easter, and spring, and cakes, and golden light... Just happy everything.
What a lovely and inspiring treasure this post is~

Amelia's golden hair is so beautiful. Happy Easter to your family.

A perfect afternoon. Love the abstract cake decoration. Happy, happy easter to you and your lovely family.

I just love the bias trim on the sleeves and neckline of the dress. I love those kinds of details. I love the toadstool nightlight too. I actually have one that I am waiting to give my daughter for her birthday. I can't wait! Have a very Happy Easter!!!

I've been making that chocolate cake for many years now. I got the recipe from a colleague who called it "Wacky Cake." It's so fun and delicious. It brings up happy memories with MY wonderfully wonderful girl.

Ha! Love the Daddy pile!

I'm always amazed at how clean your daughters clothes are (especially the one where she is eating chocolate!) That tree is so gorgeous. Have a good weekend!

Alicia I know Amelia is your first child, so you wouldn't know that keeping her shirt white while eating chocolate batter is possibly a superpower! Not to mention that 2 year olds usually don't have hair half way down thier backs! I have five children and my youngest is exactly her age, so I am telling you.......super powers!

Tell Amelia that that is the prettiest decorated Easter Cake EVER!!

Glad you guys liked the cookies! Happy Easter!

I would choose that cake in a heartbeat over any super fancy cake...it is absolutely love filled...Thank You!

Very cute cake and really, not that much candy on top - a little one might very well cover the whole top full of candy. The little vest is so cute - might need to make one for my grand daughter. Happy Easter!

You live in the most beautiful world filled with adorable children and flowers...oh for just a slice of it!

Happy Easter to you and yours! Once again, I could just settle in with a cup of coffee and look at your pictures all day! :)

Do you know that whenever I'm feeling blue, sad or need a pick me up I'll come over to your blog to make myself feel better. The way you write, your pictures, your daily life bring me back to gratitude and joy. I feel SO blessed to have found you. You are a gift to me. Jen in Boise

Each of your posts, and watching Meems grow, brings me such joy! Thank you so much for sharing. Happy Easter!

Happy Easter! =)

You make rhubarb custard pie, too! I'm on the East Coast and most people look at me like I'm nuts when I say I don't use strawberries in my rhubarb pie, I use custard. I use my grandmother's recipe, circa 1930s Missouri. We are a little behind you with the rhubarb crop but I can't wait until it shows up in the farmer's market!
