Vacation, Part 2: Door County

Door County, Wisconsin, is a peninsula in eastern Wisconsin that sits between Green Bay and Lake Michigan. It is a very popular vacation destination for Chicagoans, and, as children and young adults, Andy and I both came here with our families in the summer (and both of our mothers grew up vacationing here, as well). There are charming little towns scattered up and down the peninsula, and a beautiful island, called Washington Island, at the northern tip that can only be reached by ferry boat. The area has a strong Scandinavian heritage, and wildflowers, fish boils, and lovely farms seem to be around every bend.

Beautiful! I love Wisconsin too.

Oh, so awesome photos:-)

Thank you so much for the break from the world as I know it! I probably didn't even need to take my blood pressure meds this morning. :-) My favorite (being the animal lover that I am) is Amelia with kitty! Thank you again for sharing.

Lovely! I have a friend that lives up that way and I keep itching to drive and visit her - seeing your photos makes me want to nail down some solid plans with her so I can go see all that gorgeousness, too!

I love your pictures, they give such a great impression of your fantastic holiday
Thanks for sharing, Manon

The messy French bun..parisian stripes..calico cat..fish strung up..little red putter..EVERYTHING..what's not to ♥
And resting on mommy..

Sittin' on the dock of the bay~

PERFECT! All of it.

Gorgeous photos, especially that beautiful evening light. Love the shots of the sea as well. Andy has clearly impressed that little boy with the blue ring! CJ xx

Oh, how I love going to Door County and miss it so much. Aren't fish boils the best? It looks like you had a wonderful time! Thanks so much for sharing.

I have been following your blog for years and was so excited to see you were going to Door County in my state, Wisconsin! It was really fun seeing you love it through your pictures and thinking about all my family memories with my parents and our kids going to these same spots. We have had several family reunions at the Wagon Trail, enjoying the Swedish bakery for breakfast and playing checkers by the fire place. The pace of Door County is wonderfully calm and relaxing. Thanks for sharing this family event with us and for loving one of my favorite places. PS the picture of Amelia with the kitty is adorable.

PPS Now you have to come back in the Fall when Door County really shines!

What a very pretty area! You're so good at fixing her hair.

That little stuffed animal is so loved! These photos make me think I must get back to Wisconsin next summer. So beautiful!

and directly across that big lake, seventy miles away
you'll find me waving at you
happy to see your summer family days

You have captured the joy of Door County! Have played many a round at the Red Putter. Love this all.

Alright. That settles it. You need to get Amelia a kitten.

So, so beautiful. We love Door County, too -- my husband grew up in Milwaukee and he grew up vacationing there as well (it's not just Chicagoans). We even celebrated our son's first birthday on a beautiful October trip to Fish Creek. Thanks for sharing with us! Mimi is just beautiful and looks so happy.

there's something oh so forever special about the midwest.. i'm from a little town north of chicago and just south of wisconsin. summers found our family in door county and other spots with sweet memories. :)

Looks like you all had so much fun. The photos are beautiful!
